Worker Killed in Fall at Hyundai Plant in Bryan County, Georgia

On April 29, 2023, 35-year-old Victor Javier Cajija Gamboa fell approximately 60 feet to his death. Mr. Gamboa was a subcontractor working to help construct the Hyundai Plant in Bryan County, Georgia.

While on his construction job, Mr. Gamboa fell from a three-story paint shop structure. Initial information indicates the individual’s safety harness lanyard failed.

The Hyundai construction site is located at I-16 and Highway 280 in Bryan County, Georgia.

Hyundai’s initial investigation found that Mr. Gamboa fell when part of his safety harness failed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating Mr. Gamboa’s death.

The Hyundai plant construction is coordinated, in part, by the Savannah Harbor Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority.

Mr. Gamboa’s family is almost certainly entitled to death benefits through the Georgia workers’ compensation plan, and the family has a potential claim against the manufacturer of the lanyard or safety clip that failed and led to his fall.
